I love these. As a test, I put Evan Williams in with 4 vanilla beans and aged it for 3 weeks.
I had a friend come over, we both took a shot of the regular and then a shot of the aged, what a world of difference. The aged was so much smoother and didn’t have the bite as the regular did. Fast shipping, no leaks.

This barrel came in and didn’t require the curing process (did it anyway). Instead of taking liquor that I normally like and aging that, I jumped into making my own. Followed the instructions as given with the flavoring (I chose the Kentucky bourbon flavor) and we are now on week 3. I tasted and inspected it at the end of week 2 just to see and it’s already VERY smooth with an oak-y finish. Going to leave it for about another week for color. Can’t wait to bottle it and get started with the Canadian Rye flavoring! Also makes for a fun point of conversation.

Great results! After curing mine with cognac and Moscow mule mixer we aged it about 90 days. The results were amazingly good with extra smoothness, tannins and unique flavor. I imagined if bottled by a distiller the 750 ml product would be sold north of $100 meanwhile my base bourbon cost me about $75 for 3 liters. It was that good. My next batch is being cured in a 2 liter barrel which I will bring to my neighbors memorial day BBQ.

This was my 1st try at aging barrels, glad I did it. Took about 4 days with refilling each day with hot tap water for leaks to stop, with one more to be safe. I put my spirits in and in one month you would think I left it for a year. Ended up with 5 bottle. Only thing going to do different is, going to reseal it with the sealing wax and another 3 days with hot water. Since at the end of the month it started to weep a bit.

Just like the big ones the distilleries use, oak, toasted, plus a stand to make folks ask, “what is that?” So, I am sure you have a few bottles of stuff you don’t drink…I am further convinced that those bottle would make an interesting blend…well that’s what I did anyway. A nice blend of OK bourbon and rye, that separately was OK, but after one month is already better than the originals. When it’s done, it’s done, No idea when that will be, but that’s the fun. I will get another when this is done, start a new batch and use the previous one for rum.

These barrels are great. I now have a 3L and a 5L. Made a Woodford Reserve original Manhattan in the 3L that after 3 weeks was outstanding. After 5 weeks it was gone. I plan to move that recipe up to the 5L, and do more creative concoctions in the 3L. Any suggestion? Customer service from RHB has been fantastic and the UTube videos are quite informative.
