Create Delicious Vodka Cocktails At Home

vodka cocktailsWhether you are hoping to save money or just want to try something a little different, changing your drinking habits doesn’t have to mean having less fun.  If you are staying home rather than going out, you might be surprised to find out just how easy it is to make your favorite vodka cocktail at home.  Even better, it is far less expensive to make your own vodka cocktail rather than purchasing one at a bar or restaurant.  In most cases, you will have at least some of the ingredients you need for an amazing vodka cocktail at home already, so you can get started right away!

A classic vodka cocktail is a vodka and cranberry. You can pick up a bottle of cranberry juice for around two dollars, then add your favorite brand to make a vodka cocktail better known as a Cape Cod.  The mix can be as strong or light as you like, but most people like a 50/50 ratio.  Here are a few more vodka cocktail recipe ideas that are easy to make and great to drink:

– Crantini

Also called a Cranberry Martini, this drink offers a twist on the always popular Cosmopolitan.  It is a cranberry and vodka cocktail that is garnished with vodka soaked dried cranberries or fresh cranberries.  It even goes great with Thanksgiving dinner!  Mix 3 1/2 ounces of vodka with 1/2 ounce cranberry juice or liqueur in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass along with three ice cubes.  Mix well, then pour into a glass (a chilled vodka cocktail glass will work best) and add a few cranberries before serving.

– The Frog in a Blender

A fun vodka cocktail that can be served at Halloween parties or other late night events.  The “frog” in this cocktail is really just sections of lime that create the illusion of an old witches brew.  To create a more interesting vodka cocktail, consider adding berries, sliced apples, or grapes.  To prepare the drink, combine one cup of ice, 2 ounces of vodka, 4 ounces of cranberry juice, and 2 lime wheels in a blender.  Blend briefly, about 3-5 seconds so that the ingredients don’t become completely blended, and serve in a hurricane glass.

– Hawaiian Sea Breeze

Also called a Bay Breeze or Downeaster, this delicious vodka cocktail will quickly become a favorite.  The flavor is similar to a cranberry and vodka cocktail, but has a bit of tropical flair thanks to pineapple juice.  To create this always popular vodka cocktail, pour 2 ounces of vodka into a highball glass with ice.  Add 2 ounces each of cranberry and pineapple juice, then garnish with a lime wedge and serve.

– Spanish Madras

A cool and refreshing vodka cocktail, this Mediterranean inspired drink is perfect for parties.  The ingredients are similar to some of the other vodka cocktail mixes already suggested, but it has a much fruitier flavor that is ideal for warmer weather.  Combine 1 1/2 ounces of vodka with 3 ounces of cranberry juice in a highball glass and stir well.  Then, add 1 ounce of orange juice to the top, and serve with a paper umbrella if desired.

– Sea Breeze

Different from it’s Hawaiian cousin, this vodka cocktail is a favorite among bartenders everywhere.  A bit of tangy grapefruit juice makes this a real treat that can be served year round.  Start by pouring 1 3/4 ounces vodka and 3 ounces of cranberry juice into a chilled highball glass over cubed ice.  Stir well, and then add 1 ounce of grapefruit juice.  Add a grapefruit slice to the side to garnish.

There are so many different vodka cocktails that you can make easily and inexpensively at home.  If you enjoy trying different drinks, you can easily find more recipes to try.  No matter which vodka cocktail is your favorite, remember to drink responsibly!
